Nawshaba’s ‘Chharpatra’ at South Asian Short Film Fest

Bangladeshi short film “Chharpatra” has been selected for the 7th South Asian Short Film Festival. The film will be screened at the “Short Fiction Competition” category at the event.

Actor Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed, who plays the lead role in the film, confirmed the news to the Daily Sun on Wednesday. She said, “The short film ‘Chharpatra’ is the only film from Bangladesh to compete in the festival. Our film will represent Bangladesh in the competition category among 116 films selected from various countries in South Asia. It is a matter of great joy and pride.”

“This festival will be held at Nandan in Kolkata on 7-13 July. The festival authorities have invited us. I have also applied for visa. I hope I can attend the screening of Chharpatra”, she added.

The short film “Chhrpatra” has been made on the story of a woman’s protest. Aparajita Sangita is the director of the project.

In the opening of the short film, lead actor Nawshaba wants to divorce her husband Nafees despite the fact that there is no complaint against her husband. That’s why she went to lawyer, Jayita Mahalanobish’s chambers. The lawyer asked many questions but could not find any valid reason for divorce. Amid this situation, other characters of the film, Tanu, Nusrat, Rupa, Ayesha Moni, Hazrat Ali and others suddenly appear on the screen. Thus, the story of the film continues…

Besides Nawshaba, Jayita Mahalanobish, Nafees Ahmed, Babar Ali, Bulu Bari, Pinki, Shubhra, Eva, Suprabhat, Sinha and child artiste Timtim have acted in different roles in the project.
