Shawdesh Desk:
About the ongoing crisis about the leadership of the Jaitya Party (JP), Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday said his party will remain neutral and support neither GM Quader nor Raushan Ershad.
He came up with the remark while speaking at a discussion at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in the capital.
Dhaka City South Unit of Awami Jubo League arranged the discussion as part of its month-long programme to celebrate the birthday of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the ‘People’s Empowerment Day’.
The AL leader said, “It is an internal matter of the party, while as per the rules of procedure the Speaker of the parliament will elect the leader of the opposition in the House,” BSS reports.
On July 28, HM Ershad’s younger brother GM Quader, who was acting chairman of the JP, was announced as its Chairman.
JP Secretary General Moshiur Rahman Ranga disclosed the decision at a press briefing on that day.
But, the ongoing crisis in the party came to light when a faction of the party declared the party’s senior co-chairperson Raushan Ershad as JP Chairperson on Thursday.
On the day, Jatiya Party’s senior presidium member Anisul Islam Mahmud made the announcement.
