A man allegedly hacked his 35-year-old daughter to death, after an altercation over paying installments of a loan, in Damurhuda upazila in Chuadanga on early Sunday.

The deceased, Marjina Khatun was daughter of Azibar Mandal alias Azizul Huq of village Bagadanga of Carpusdanga union of the upazila.

Hossain, victim’s nephew, said that his aunt and grandfather got into an altercation over paying installments of a loan at Azibar’s house on Saturday evening.

Enraged by the incident, the Azibar hacked his daughter with a locally-made sharp weapon when she was asleep around 1:30am, he said.

Azibar also hacked the victim’s daughter Roksena when she tried to save her mother, leaving the duo critically injured, Hossain said.

The injured were taken to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital where doctors declared Marjina dead upon arrival, said the hospital’s emergency department physician Mustafizur Rahman.

Carpusdanga police outpost in-charge Sub-inspector Imran Hossain said that they primarily thought that family dispute over loan installments was behind the killing.

The accused went into hiding shortly after the incident, he said, adding that drives were on to arrest him.
