Two people were killed and two others injured when a covered van ploughed through several rickshaw vans in the Raniganj Bazar area of Ghoraghat upazila in Dinajpur on Monday morning.

The deceased were Abdul Goffar, 68, a fish trader of village Kumarpur Chhatra in Pirganj, Rangpur, and Anwar Hossain, 50, a rickshaw van driver of Kochgram of Birampur upazila in the district.

Sub-inspector of Ghoraghat police station Md Sabbir said that a covered van ploughed through eight stationary rickshaw vans near a fish market on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional highway at about 7:00am, leaving Abdul Goffar dead on the spot and three others injured.

Anwar Hossain died from his injuries when he was taken to Ghoraghat Upazila Health Complex.

Two other people injured in the accident were admitted to the hospital.

Police arrested covered van driver Siddiq, son of Sheikh Osman Ali from Ramnagar in Dinajpur, and seized the covered van, said the SI.
