Vehicular movement around Mymensingh restricted

Movement of public transports around Mymensingh district was restricted on Saturday ahead of Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s grand rally in Mymensingh town.

Almost no buses could be seen on the roads in the district since Saturday morning.

Only a few three-wheelers were seen plying on almost deserted roads.

Many people were seen coming to Mymensingh town by trawlers on the day.

BNP alleged that the vehicular movement were restricted to prevent its activists from joining theier scheduled grand rally.

New Age correspondent in Mymensingh reported that the number of vehicles on the roads in the district started to reduce since Friday evening.

No buses were seen in Mymensingh town since Saturday morning.

Buses from Tangail, Sherpur, Netrokona and Kishoreganj to Mymensingh districts did not run on the day.

Many people were seen entering into the town by trawlers and boats.

Some three-wheelers were seen running on the roads.

BNP alleged that the government imposed unannounced strike to prevent BNP activists from joining the rally.

So, they were coming to Mymensingh town by trawlers and boats, they said.

New Age correspondent in Tangail reported that no buses left Tangail for Mymensingh since Saturday morning.

Tangail district bus, minibus and coach worker’s union president Chittarannan Sarkar told New Age that the Tangail bus owners did not allow running any bus on Saturday due to request from Mymensingh district bus owners.

Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association secretary general Khandaker Enayet Ullah told New Age that he was unaware whether buses were not running on routes towards Mymensingh.
