The bodies of couple, who drowned in Atrai river in Naogaon on Sunday afternoon, was recovered on Monday morning.

The deceased were identified as Parvez Hossain, 22 and his wife Mini Akter, 18, who was an expecting mother, of Birganj upazila of Dinajpur.

According to local sources, the couple went to the river for taking bath and swept away by strong wave at Ramchandrapur Kheyaghat area in Mohadevpur upazila.

On information, divers of Fire service went to the spot and conducted a rescue operation till 8:00pm but fail to trace them.

On Monday morning, the divers started rescue operation and recovered the bodies of the couple at 9:00am about a kilometer away from the spot.

Confirming the news, Officer-in-charge (OC) of Mohadevpur Police Station Azam Uddin Mahmud said the bodies were handed over to the victims’ families.
