The overall flood situation in the country’s northern region has improved but miseries to the victims have aggravated the situation in the wake of an in adequate amount of relief materials.

Sources said fresh areas in the central region have been submerged by the upstream water on Friday.

The floodwater was rushing to the upper central and central regions while the lower central part of the country may be inundated.

Millions of flood victims in 18 districts of the northern, northeastern and the upper central regions have been passing a miserable life.

They are now facing acute crises of food and pure drinking water. The government relief materials are insufficient.

The flood situation has started improving in Sylhet, Sunamganj, Kurigram, Gaibandha, Bogura, Jamalpur, Natore, Naogaon, Sirajganj and Tangail districts on Friday, according to Flood Forecasting and Warning Center (FFWC).

Though the flood situation is improving in the area, the flood victims have been passing a miserable life with inadequate relief, locals said.

Some villagers have been evacuated from several flood-hit areas while many others have been found stranded.

Shortages of pure drinking water and food intensified the sufferings of those marooned.

Some of the displaced people have been passing their days under the open sky as their dwellings were washed away by floodwater while waterborne diseases like diarrhoea have broken out in the flooded areas.

The flood-hit people are seeking assistance from the government or other organisations.

Local sources said the government has sped up relief distribution among the flood victims in the affected areas, but these are not adequate.

The continuous swelling of major rivers is triggering flooding in new areas while river erosion has inundated more areas in the central and northern regions.

Floodwater has damaged many houses, crops, communications infrastructures, educational institutions and other establishments.

The flood situation may deteriorate in Munshiganj, Faridpur, Madaripur, Shariatpur, Rajbari and low-lying areas of Dhaka district, according to FFWC.

The water flow of Brahmaputra River is reducing and that from Jamuna River is static.

The water flow from Ganges-Padma has increased rapidly on the day and it will continue in the next 48 hours, it said.

Thirteen major rivers were flowing above the danger level while the water levels at 22 river stations across the country marked a rise on Friday.
