Ruling Awami League organised rallies and discussion in different areas in Dhaka on Wednesday while main opposition party — Bangladesh Nationalist Party— and other opposition parties organised nationwide sit-in protests on the same day.
AL Dhaka South organised a discussion in front of the central party office at the capital’s Bangabandhu Avenue in Gulistan marking the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s homecoming on January 10, in 1972.
Members of different units ofDhaka South City Corporation wards gathered at the venue since morning with processions, with banners and chanting slogans.
Besides, the ruling party also held rallies in front of the Central Shaheed Minar.
Activists of ruling party units gathered in different areas in the capital, including Dhaka University, Dhanmondi, and Mirpur areas.
On January 6, AL general secretary Obaidul Quader, in a meeting at the party president’s Dhanmondi office instructed the activists to remain vigilant during BNP’s January 11 protests.
Earlier, AL activists occupied streets in Dhaka during BNP’s rally on December 10, 2022, and during mass protests by more than 30 political parties on December 30.
