‘Gold sector led by Sayem Sobhan Anvir to see export soon’

The gold industry led by Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) President Sayem Sobhan Anvir will start export soon.

Dr Dilip Kumar Roy, former President of the organisation and Chairman of BAJUS Standing Committee on District Monitoring, made the disclosure at a view exchange meeting with Sirajganj unit leaders and activists on Monday.

“Under the leadership of our President Sayem Sobhan Anvir, we will export the gold ornaments soon,” he said.

 

About potential of the sector, he said jewellery alike RMG will be a major contributor to the country’s export earnings.

He said “Gold trading was like an underground business in the past. We were in fix to settle business with hundreds of bhories of gold. We remained scared of police and NBR officials. However, Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has gifted us with a gold policy. We can now handle business with dignity.”

Referring to the contribution of BAJUS President, he said “Although Sayem Sobhan Anvir is the Managing Director of Asia’s largest business conglomerate Bashundhara Group, he has helmed the neglected jewellery sector. So, we are grateful to him.”

“We will see massive development in the sector following the gold policy announced by the Prime Minister. Bangladesh will export ornaments engraved with portrait of Bangabandhu and the expression ‘Made in Bangladesh.’ The sector will contribute to the country’s GDP,” he said.

Dr Dilip also suggested the jewellers to protest against any irregularity including trading of smuggled gold.

“Whenever you see trading of smuggled gold, register instant protest. A list of the unscrupulous gold traders will be submitted to the law enforcers. Shops of such traders will be sealed by the authorities.”

 

Calling for discipline, he said “We will operate business honestly and make profit. We have no relations with the people who tamper with measurement and compromise with quality of gold.”

Dr Dilip Kumar Roy addressed the programme as the chief guest while Sirajganj unit president Santosh Kumar Kanu presided over it. The district general secretary Gabinda Karmakar moderated the view exchange meeting.

Meanwhile, Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shahin, vice-president of BAJUS central committee, Md Joynal Abedin Khokon, member secretary of Standing Committee on District Monitoring, Narayan Chandra Dey, assistant secretary of BAJUS, Md Repnul Hasan, member secretary of Standing Committee on Law and membership, and Pabitra Chandra Ghose, member of Standing Committee on District Monitoring, spoke on the occasion.

Hailing from various upazilas, jewellers attended the programme.

Prior to the view exchange, Sirajganj district unit took out a rally in the city.
