RSRM Group MD Maksudur Rahman held from Gulshan

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) detained the managing director of the Ratanpur Steel Re-Rolling Mills (RSRM) Group Maksudur Rahman from the Gulshan area early Wednesday.

Tipped off, a RAB team raided the area of the city around 1am and detained Maksudur, one of the country’s top loan defaulters, said Imran Khan, ASP (media wing) at Rab HQ.

A Chattogram court issued two arrest warrants against him, prompting the RAB to arrest him in one of the cases, he said.

Maksudur Rahman stands accused of taking out loans of more than Tk2,200 crore from various banks. So far, 10 cases have been filed against him for failing to pay the loans.

On February this year, he was banned from leaving the country.
