200 boats to welcome PM in Patuakhali

A total of 200 boats were painted and decorated with alpana to welcome prime minister Sheikh Hasina at coastal Kalapara upazila in Patuakhali.

The prime minister is scheduled to go to Kalapara tomorrow to inaugurate 1320MW Payra Thermal Power Plant.

Organisers and the district administration said on Saturday that they were about to complete all preparations to receive the prime minister.

A team of Charukala Barishal assisted by local fishermen has painted alpana on the boats.

Charukala Barishal activist Sushanta Ghosh said, ‘Our decoration is on final stage. The boats will be floated on the Payra River near the power plant inauguration venue.’

Nizam Sheikh, the president of Kuakata fishermen’s association named Ashar Alo Samabaya Samiti, said, ‘We have grown up in a marine society. Boats are a part of our life. We have decorated out boats to welcome prime minister Sheikh Hasina at Kalapara.’

Patuakhali deputy commissioner Mohammad Kamal Hossain said the prime minister would inaugurate not only Payra 1320MW power plant but also a phase of the completion of 100 per cent electrification of the country on the day.

‘We have already completed all preparations marking her arrival,’ he added.

Patuakhali superintendent of police Mohammad Shahidullah said that they had completed their preparations to ensure safety and security in the district.
