Bangladesh enters 5G era today

Shawdesh Desk:

Bangladesh is set to enter the era of 5G mobile technology on Sunday, at a time when the nation is celebrating the implementation of its Digital Bangladesh vision.

The 5G is a high-end broadband cellular network enabling users to transmit high-speed data on mobile phones.

Prime Minister’s ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy will inaugurate the launching ceremony; Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar said on Saturday.

To mark the ‘Digital Bangladesh Day’ on December 12, state-owned mobile phone operator Teletalk will roll out a 5G trial run in the capital city Dhaka partially.

Minister Mustafa Jabbar said the 5G technology will enable people to experience the transformation of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, the internet of things, blockchain and other automation in services.

Initially, the 5G services will available in Bangabhaban, Ganobhaban, Sangsad Bhaban, Prime Minister’s Office, Bangladesh Secretariat, and Dhanmondi 32 in Dhaka. Besides, Savar and Tungipara are also included in coverage for historical importance.

“The 5G technology is mandatory for a developed Bangladesh dreamt by Bangabandhu as well as supporting the journey of fourth industrial revolution under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” Minister Jabbar said.

Teletalk already got 60 Megahertz (MHz) 3.5 GHz band spectrum to roll out its 5G services on a trial basis. Earlier in July 2018, Bangladesh tested the 5G technology on a test basis in presence of Sajeeb Wazed Joy.

“Bangladesh entered the new journey as a tech-driven nation on December 12, 2008, with the historical announcement of ‘Vision 2021’ by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Now, the nation enters the 5G world to tap the limitless opportunities,” the minister added.

The private mobile operators will launch 5G services after spectrum auction in March next year, according to the minister.  The government has planned to launch the 5G service in industrial areas and economic zones after 2022.
