Eight get life term for murder in Jhenaidah

Shawdesh desk: A Jhenaidah court on Monday sentenced eight people to life term imprisonment for killing a man in Jhenaidah in 2010.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Court Judge Shawkat Hossain gave the verdict this noon.

The court also fined them Tk 5,000 each and 7 years imprisonment under the Explosives Act.

The convicts are: Shanti Hossain, Abdul Karim, Lavlu, Abu Zahid Moni, Mizanur Rahman alias Tak Mizan, Ibrahim Khalil alias Idris alias Idu, Mukul and Nasir.

The court however acquitted another accused in the case Nasir Uddin Malitha, the current chairman of Ganna Union, as the allegation brought against him could not be proved.

According to the case statement, the convicts bomb attacked Zakir Hossain Mandal Shanti, was joint convener of Ganna Union Juba League, while he was returning home on a motorcycle from Ganna Bazar on July 7, 2010, leaving him seriously injured.

He succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital in Dhaka three days after the incident.

Sirajul Islam Malitha, father-in-law of the deceased, filed two cases including murder and explosives with the Sadar Police Station accusing unknown persons.
