Nahid Islam, convener of National Citizen Party (NCP), on Friday night threatened the government that the student-people would “once again” march to Dhaka from across the country, unless authorities ban Awami League (AL).
On 5 August last year, students and people staged a similar march to the capital demanding the ouster of Awami League fascist government, ultimately leading to the regime’s collapse.
At the same time, the Shahbagh blockade movement would continue, Nahid said in a facebook post.
He expects all the forces behind last year’s anti-fascist uprising would stay united on the question of banning Awami League and the country’s sovereignty, Nahid said.
Earlier, Sarjis Alam, another key leader of NCP, claimed all the political forces, except BNP, have joined the Shahbagh blockade to press home the demand of banning Awami League at the earliest.
Nahid potentially referred to BNP when urging all uprising forces to stay united.
He branded Awami League as a violator of sovereignty and a force against the July uprising’s spirit as well as an anti-independence party, anti-democracy party, anti-Islamic party, anti-women party, anti-humanitarian party and a terrorist-cum-pro-Mujib party.
