Police used water cannons on Sunday afternoon to disperse primary school teachers as they sought to march towards the Secretariat demanding the completion of their recruitment processes at government schools.

At 3pm, over a thousand teachers started their march from Shahbagh intersection. They were headed for the High Court mazar area, but at one point changed course to move towards the Secretariat. Police first set up barricades to block the march, and later, as teachers appeared unrelenting police resorted to using water cannons.

The teachers, however, have maintained their presence in the area. From there, they would first march to the High Court mausoleum, before returning to Shahbagh, they said.
