Shahjahan Omar-Mamun-Asaduzzaman shown arrested in murder case

A court in Dhaka on Wednesday granted a petition to show former Jhalakati-1 constituency MP Shahjahan Omar, former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun and former DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia arrested in a case filed over murder of garment worker Rubel during the student movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Azharul Islam issued the order following a prayer of the DB.

The three were produced before the court for the hearing.

On August 5, 2024, around 11AM, several students alongwith the public, including Rubel, brought out a protest procession at the Ring Road area under Adabor Police Station in the capital. Then Chhatra League, Jubo League, police Awami League opened fire on the procession. Rubel was then injured by bullet and died.

Later, Rubel’s father Rafiqul Islam filed the case with Adabor Police Station as the plaintiff.
