The running staff members of the Bangladesh Railway withdrew their indefinite work abstention programme in the early hours of Wednesday following which trains started to run across the country.
After around 26 hours, the trains started to run from Dhaka rail station in Kamalapur at around 5:00am on Wednesday.
After a meeting was held at the rail adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan’s official residence at Minto road the demonstrators withdrew the strike.
Bangladesh Railway Running Staff and Sramik Karmachari Samity general secretary Mojibur Rahman announced at around 2:45am on Wednesday about the withdrawal of the strike after the meeting.
He said they were being assured that their demands would be met.
The adviser said he took the responsibility to meet their demand for restoration of their previous benefits for overtime work.
Following this, the trains started to run from 5:00am on Wednesday, said railways ministry officials.
