After eight consecutive wins, Rangpur Riders’ unbeaten streak finally came to an end as they lost to Durbar Rajshahi by 24 runs at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Thursday.Chasing 171, they were bundled out for 146.
Rangpur lost three early wickets – Irfan Sukkur, Steven Taylor and Iftikhar Ahmed – inside the first 4 overs.
Saif Hassan scored 43 before departing while Khushdil Shah bagged 14.
It was all on the shoulder of the skipper Nurul Hossain from there. He built a 35-run partnership with Saifuddin before departing for 41 when Rangpur needed 45 to win from the final 3 overs.The southpaw hit a few boundaries and maximums but he was caught at deep mid wicket in the penultimate over as Rangpur’s hopes were all but gone with 26 needed from the final over with just one wicket in hand.
Taskin Ahmed bowled Nahid Rana in the second ball of the over to seal an emphatic 24-run victory over the table toppers.
For Rajshahi, Ryan Burl picked up 4 wickets while Taskin and S M Meherob bagged a brace each.
Earlier, Durbar Rajshahi posted 170/9 in their 20 overs. Yasir Ali top scored with a blistering 60 and gave Rajshahi hopes of going beyond 200 but their death-over shambles didn’t let them score more than 170.Rangpur came back brilliantly in the match by conceding only 17 runs in the final 4 overs where the bowlers picked up 5 Rajshahi wickets.
Khushdil Shah and Akif Javed picked up three wickets each while Nahid Rana and Rakibul Hasan bagged a wicket each for Rangpur.
