The Dhaka Metropolitan’s detective branch in an operation on Wednesday seized approximately 10,000 textbooks, which were intended for distribution to primary and secondary school students.
Besides, two members of the syndicate involved in selling and hoarding free textbooks, were also arrested during the raid, said the police.
Speaking at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre on Thursday, DMP joint commissioner, DB-South, Mohammad Nasirul Islam said that DB arrested the two in an operation conducted in Banglabazar area of Sutrapur in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon.
The arrested are Sirajul Islam Ujjal, 55, and Md Delowar Hossain, 56.
‘A syndicate had stockpiled free government textbooks for grades 1 through 10 in warehouses in Ispahani Alley with the intent of selling them. The seized books were valued at approximately Tk 8 lakh,’ DB official Nasirul said.
He added that the seized books would be handed over to the National Curriculum and Textbook Board following court instructions.
