Justice Md Atoar Rahman and Justice Md Ali Reza would hold the hearing in the sedition case.

On 2 January, the trial court, Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court, denied Chinmoy bail over allegations he and his 18 supporters dishonoured the national flag by hoisting the saffron flag above it.

On 25 November, Chinmoy was arrested from the Dhaka airport area. The following day, the court denied his bail petition and sent him to jail, sparking a violent rampage by thousands of his supporters on the court premises.
