Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen has said films can act as a bridge to deepen mutual understanding among people, foster cultural dialogue, promote unity and prosperity across nations, and contribute to building a shared future for humanity.
The envoy made the remarks on Saturday while addressing the opening ceremony of the 23rd Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) and the Chinese Film Week at the Bangladesh National Museum in the capital, according to the Chinese embassy here.
Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam, Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman Jalal Ahmed, diplomats from various countries, and more than 500 representatives from the film industry across 34 countries and regions attended the event.
In his speech, Ambassador Yao Wen highlighted that this year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Bangladesh, as well as the jointly designated Year of People-to-people Exchanges between the two nations. It also coincides with the 120th anniversary of Chinese cinema.
He noted the Chinese Film Week serves as the inaugural event for the Year of People-to-people Exchanges.
Adviser Nahid Islam expressed enthusiasm for using the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties as an opportunity to further enhance collaboration and exchanges between the film industries of China and Bangladesh, creating a dynamic and memorable Year of People-to-people Exchanges.
The screening of “Moon Man”, the opening film of the 23rd DIFF, officially launched the Chinese Film Week in Bangladesh.
The Chinese Film Week is part of the 2025 Dhaka “Happy Chinese New Year” celebrations. It is co-organised by the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh and the China Film Administration, with support from the China Film Archive and the DIFF.
