Man accused in 15 cases killed in Mymensingh ‘gunfight’

Shawdesh Desk: A man, accused in 15 cases, was killed in a reported gunfight with Detective Branch (DB) of Police members at Tarakanda upazila in Mymensingh on early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Karim, 45, son of Akkas Ali of the village. He was wanted in 15 criminal cases.

Tipped off that some ‘drug traders’ gathered in the area for drug trading, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 2:30 am, said Shah Kamal Akand, officer-in-charge of Tarakanda Police Station.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back in self-defense.

After a brief gunfight, police recovered the body of Karim from the spot while others managed to flee the scene.

One pipe gun and 200 grams of heroin were recovered from the spot.
