The Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has issued 13 specific guidelines for city residents for the 31st night celebrations to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.
CMP says it will ensure adequate security measures during the occasion.
The guidelines were announced in a press release sent to the media on Monday.
According to the CMP, additional measures include setting up checkpoints at various locations, deploying police at churches, hotels, clubs, and entertainment centers, intensifying patrols, assigning special traffic police arrangements, and increasing plainclothes surveillance.
The 13 guidelines are as follows:
1. No gatherings, assemblies, or celebrations will be allowed on roads, flyovers, rooftops, or public spaces.
2. Open-air events, cultural programs, music, or dances to celebrate the New Year are prohibited.
3. Fireworks, crackers, and lanterns are strictly forbidden.
4. Visiting Patenga Sea Beach and Parki Beach will not be permitted from 6 PM on December 31 to 10 AM on January 1.
5. All licensed bars and liquor stores must remain closed from 6 PM on December 31 to 6 PM on January 1.
6. Blowing loud horns and reckless driving of cars or motorcycles are prohibited.
7. Celebrations must adhere to social norms and cultural decorum.
8. Consumption of drugs is strictly prohibited, and offenders will face legal action.
9. Separate arrangements must be made for women at all events, and women must be treated with respect.
10. Activities violating moral standards must be avoided.
11. Indecent behavior and illegal activities are strictly prohibited.
12. Hotels are prohibited from renting spaces or rooms for DJ parties.
13. Any activity disrupting public peace and order should be avoided.
Additionally, CMP requested drivers to avoid blowing loud horns and driving recklessly in the Karnaphuli Tunnel and on the Elevated Expressway.
