One of the deceased was identified as CNG driver Lokman Akmal, 45, a resident of Kamari area of Sherpur Sadar upazila.

Sherpur Sadar police station’s officer-in-charge Jobaidul Alam said the Dhaka-bound bus of Refat Paribahan from Kurigram’s Rowmari upazila collided with the autorickshaw from the opposite direction in Safmari area under Bhatshala union around 11:30 am, leaving the five dead on the spot and another critically injured.

The injured woman was first taken to a private hospital in the upazila and later shifted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital as her condition worsened, the OC said.

The bus driver managed to flee the scene but locals seized the vehicle, the police officer added.
