Case filed over seven murders on vessel in Meghna

A case was filed on Tuesday night over seven people’s death in a brutal attack on MV Al-Bakhera, a vessel carrying fertiliser in the River Meghna in Chandpur.

One of the owners of MV Al-Bakhera, Mahbub Murshed filed the case against unidentified persons with Haimchar police station at about 11:00pm on Tuesday, said Mohiuddin Sumon, officer-in-charge of the police station.

 

According to the case statement, the attack was pre-planned by unidentified persons who attacked the people on the vessel with sharp weapons with the intention of committing robbery.

Mahbub, in the statement, said that the attackers robbed Tk 30, 000 in cash and some mobile phones.

‘Robbers attacked the vessel between Sunday morning and Monday afternoon,’ the statement read.

Earlier on Monday afternoon, members of Bangladesh Coast Guard and River police recovered five bodies and rescued three injured victims from the vessel. Later, two of the injured succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, police said.

Meanwhile, Jewel Rana, 21, a resident of Faridpur, the only survivor in the incident is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
