Shawdesh Desk:
The train services between Chattogram and rest of Bangladesh remained suspended since Thursday afternoon as flood water submerged the tracks in Feni area.
Bangladesh Railway’s Chattogram divisional manager Saiful Islam told New Age that they had stopped running all trains from Chattogram at about 12:30pm on Thursday.
‘The flood water submerged tracks in Fazilpur area in Feni today,’ he said, adding, ‘following that we stopped all train movement to and from Chattogram.’
He said that currently one train was stranded in Laksham area and another in the Cumilla area.
Devastating flash floods are raging through nine districts in eastern, southeastern and northeastern Bangladesh.
Triggered by days of extremely heavy rains, particularly in the upstream Indian state of Tripura, the flash flooding impacts were compounded, particularly for Cumilla, by India reportedly releasing water from the Dumboor hydroelectric project in the Gumati River basin.
