The High Court on Monday asked Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission chairman to stop broadcasting of Somoy Television channel for seven days.
The bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Seshanko Sekhar Sarkar issued the directive after hearing a writ petition filed by Somoy TV managing director and promoter of City Group Shampa Rahman.
Shampa told in her petition that Somoy TV director Ahmed Jobaer with nexus of former food minister Md Qamrul Islam kept her off the function of TV to satisfy the government of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
She said that students of students Movement against Discrimination on August 13 demonstrated in front of the office of Somoy TV stating that the TV channel authorities instigated police to open fire on agitating students instead of broadcasting the students’ demonstration.
