No traffic police could be seen on roads in Bangladesh capital Dhaka on Tuesday.
Students and ordinary people were seen managing traffic at different important intersections across the city on the day.
The number of public transport was also low on the roads while the number of cars, motorcycles and rickshaws was higher.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on Monday and fled the country, ending her 15-year rule amid an unprecedented student-led mass uprising against her authoritarian regime.
Since Tuesday morning, no traffic police were seen on roads in the capital.
At Bijoy Sarani, Karwan Bazar, Farmgate, Banglamotor, Mouchak, Malibagh, Mirpur, and Shahbag crossings, ordinary people were seen managing the traffic.
Most of the vehicles were seen following their instructions.
Raziul Hasan Rahat, a student of Daffodil University who was one of the four students controlling traffic at the capital’s Agargaon, said that nobody called them to control traffic but came from their own responsibility to reduce public suffering on roads.
No officials of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police can be contacted till filing this report at 1:00pm.
