Protesters block Dhaka roads demanding PM’s resignation

Protesting students under the banner of Students Movement against Discrimination on Saturday afternoon blocked Science Laboratory crossing demanding resignation of the prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, for killing students and people during their movement for quota reformation.

Several hundreds students of different educational institutions, including Dhaka College and Dhaka City College, Dhanmondi Ideal College, and Birsthrestha Munshi Abdur Rouf College staged demonstrations as part of their countrywide protest rallies.

 

Nasim Hasan, an HSC student of Birshthrestra Munshi Abdur Rouf School and College, told New Age that they wanted Sheikh Hasina to resign for killing students and general people indiscriminately.

‘Our movement will continue until Sheikh Hasina’s resignation,’ he added.

The protesters were seen chanting slogans asking Sheikh Hasina to leave the country.

Law enforcers were seen taking position in the area.

Protesters began occupying roads in Banasree at about 12:00pm.

Huge number of police personnel were seen taking position on Rampura Bridge and in front of Jamuna Future park to prevent students from blocking roads.

Thousands of students of different private universities, schools and colleges blocked Rampura Merul Badda areas at about 2:00pm demanding resignation of prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Students of different universities, including BRAC University, North South University, East West University and United International University took to the streets.

Some parents were also seen accompanying their children.

A tense situation was prevailing in the areas as most of the traders were seen closing their shops.

Vehicular movement in the areas remained halted and huge traffic congestions were also created in the areas.
