A woman was killed allegedly by her husband in Gazipur on Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Shova Rajmoni Hosna, 20, daughter of Md Abdul Halim, joint general secretary of Gazipur Jatiya Party’s central committee and president of Meherpur Gangni upazila unit of the party.

According to the victim’s family, Shova and her husband Robiul Islam, 27, got married around two months ago. Her husband used to torture her for dowry, the family alleged.

On Tuesday night, Shova informed her parents that her husband beat her up for dowry. Later, around 4:00am the house owner’s wife informed them that their daughter was admitted to Shaheed Taj Uddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital.

Later, they found Shova’s body at the hospital.

The hospital’s residential doctor Pranoy Bhusan Das said that the body bore several injury marks and it seemed to be a suicidal case.

However, details would be known after post-mortem examinations, he added.

Gazipur sadar police officer-in-charge Ezaz Shafi said that they arrested the victim’s husband Robiul Islam in this connection.

A case was filed and the body was sent to morgue for post-mortem examinations.
