Indefinite transport strike for end to gas crisis underway in Sylhet

Shawdesh desk:

Transport workers in Sylhet district started an indefinite strike from 6:00am on Wednesday to press home their five-point demands including an end to the ongoing gas crisis.

Sylhet district road transport workers union called the strike from a protest rally on February 25.

The stock of gas at CNG stations in Sylhet runs out after 18 to 20 days each month, causing hardship for CNG-run vehicles, according to the protestors.

Md Zakaria Ahmed, central committee law affairs secretary of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation said, if their demands aren’t met, they will call for an extended strike throughout the Sylhet division.

Public life has come to a standstill due to transport strike.

Passengers were seen standing at the intersections and they are not getting vehicles even after long wait. Especially in the morning, SSC examinees faced trouble for not getting vehicles.

Transport workers said the people of Sylhet have been suffering due to gas crisis for a long time and transport workers are not getting gas after standing for hours to get gas at different CNG refueling stations every day.
