Health Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen has said all hospitals and clinics that do not have a license will be shut down.
He made the statement talking to the journalists in a view exchange meeting with Bangladesh Health Reporters’ Forum at his office in Dhaka on Tuesday morning.
He said, “Primary action has been taken against the United Medical College and Hospital over the case of the death of child Ayaan. We will take final action based on the report of the probe committee.”
Five-year-old Ayan died seven days after a circumcision procedure conducted at United Medical College Hospital in the capital’s Badda on December 31.
Ayaan’s parents alleged that he was circumcised under full anaesthesia without their consent.
The minister said that the Health Ministry is against illegally operated hospitals and clinics across the country.
According to data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the number of registered private hospitals is 8,000 and clinics 9,000.
At the same event, Prof Dr Ahmedul Kabir, additional director general at the DGHS also said that the hospitals and clinics that have not yet been registered will be raided soon.
