Mother arrested over killing daughter in Noakhali

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested a mother reportedly for killing her own daughter in Noakhali Sadar upazila on Tuesday morning.

RAB-11, CPC-3 Camp Company Commander Mahmudul Hasan confirmed the information in a press release on Tuesday night.

Tipped off, a team of the elite force conducted a raid in Ansar Camp area of the upazila and arrested Marjahan Akter Sumi, 32, it said.

According to the press release, the victim, Sumaiya Binte Alam Smriti,17, was an SSC candidate of M A Rashid Girls High School and used to live with her mother Sumi as her father was an expatriate.

After a while, the victim’s father divorced Sumi as she got engaged in an extramarital affair. Since then, Sumi used to torture the victim as she wanted to leave her mother’s house and live with her grandparents.

On October 17, Sumi called the victim’s grandfather, Md Khorshed Alam and informed that the victim was taken to a hospital in an ill condition where she breathed her last.

Later, Md Khorshed Alam lodged a murder case with Begumganj Police Station in this regard.

The arrested was handed over to the Detective Branch (DB) of district police to take further action, reads the press release.
