Bangladesh Railway is going to inaugurate two new trains on the Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar and Khulna-Mongla routes from January 1, 2024.
A commuter train will be launched on the newly inaugurate Khulna-Jashore-Mongla route while a non-stop intercity train will be inaugurated on the Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar route.
On the new Jashore-Mongla route, the train fare was fixed between Tk 125 and Tk 200.
Railways minister Nurul Islam Sujan revealed the information at a press conference on Wednesday.
On the Dhaka-Coxs Bazar route, a new train will be inaugurated for a huge demand, he said.
The new train will start from Dhaka at 6:15am and reach Cox’s Bazar at 3:00pm and start from Cox’s Bazar at 8:00pm and reach the capital at 4:30am.
The train fare will range between Tk 695 and Tk 2380, the fare charged for the Cox’s Bazar express.
The new train on Khulna-Mongla route will run between 6:00am to 9:00pm.
The minister also said that they were running trains slowly on different sections due to recent sabotages in the name of political programmes.
‘Especially on the Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar section, we ran a locomotive before running the existing Cox’s Bazar Express daily,’ he added.
Replying to a question whether his praising the ruling Awami League government’s activities at the press conference was violation of code of conduct, the minister said that he did not think so as the prime minister had inaugurated the projects earlier.
The minister is also a candidate with the ruling AL ticket in the next general election scheduled to be held on January 7.
