An engineer from India, working at a rail line project in Bangladesh, and his wife were killed when a truck rammed into a private car at Taltala under Sadar upazila in Satkhira district Saturday morning.
The deceased are Asim Kumar Biswas, 60, and his wife Chhobi Biswas, 42, of Siliguri district in India’s West Bengal.
The injured private car driver Md Rafiqul Islam Sajeeb, 30, is a resident of Dighalia upazila in Khulna district.
Asim, a civil engineer by profession, was the deputy manager of Khulna-Mongla port rail line project and used to live with his wife in Khulna.
He was on his way to India through Bhomra land port, officials said
Md Saifuzzaman, sub-assistant director of Satkhira Fire Service, said that the accident occurred at about 8:00am in front of BGB headquarters under Sadar upazila when the Khulna-bound truck hit the private car, leaving it mangled and two passengers and the driver in it injured.
They were rushed to Satkhira Sadar Hospital where doctors declared the two Indian nationals dead.
Car driver Rafiqul Islam is now undergoing treatment at Satkhira Sadar Hospital in a critical condition.
