Leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League took possession at different places of Dhaka city since Sunday morning and brought out processions against the hartal called by the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
The party leaders and activists were seen taking possession at places including AL central office on Bangabandhu Avenue, in front of Amir Complex at Azampur in Uttara, Darus Salam, near Technical crossing, in front of 20 no ward AL office in Banani, Badda, Farmgate, Bongsal, Gabtali, Rampura, Sabujbagh, Kamlapur, Jatrabari and Mirpur 11 areas, New Age Staff Correspondents reported from the spots.
The AL and its associate organisations brought out processions against hartal at different places including Banani, Badda, Farmgate, Bongsal, Gabtali, Jatrabari and Mirpur 11 areas.
The ruling party supporters were seen patrolling on bikes with bamboo sticks and cricket stamps in Gabtali area at around noon.
A protest rally of the ruling party was also seen in Mirpur intersection criticising opposition and the violence took place on Saturday.
The BNP on Saturday announced to observe dawn-to-dusk hartal across Bangladesh for today after they were forced to call off their Saturday’s grand rally amid attacks from police and supporters of the ruling Awami League.
The resulting clashes near the venue of the opposition in the city’s Naya Paltan area left at least two people—a police member and a leader of the BNP’s youth wing, Juba Dal—killed and injured over 1,000 others.
