Shawdesh Desk:
The ruling Awami League general secretary, Obaidul Quader, on Wednesday said that the government had no plan to make new arrests.
The AL leader made the comment while responding to reporters after paying tribute to the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s youngest son Sheikh Russel at Banani Graveyard in the Bangladesh capital Dhaka, marking his 60th birth anniversary.
The ruling party top leader’s comment came when the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party leaders had been alleging that police was arresting the party leaders and activists across the country in false and fictitious cases.
‘The law enforcement agencies are arresting people wanted in cases for vandalism, arson, arms and murder in previous days for the sake of fair investigation. Govt has no new plan to arrest people,’ said Quader.
Replying to a question over the forthcoming general election likely to be held in January 2024, Quader said that the election would be held as per the constitution under an independent Election Commission.
