Tangail AL leader sent to jail in rape case

An additional chief judicial magistrate court in Tangail on Monday sent an Awami League leader to jail in a case of raping a teenage girl.

Additional chief judicial magistrate Md Mahmudul Mohsin passed the order against Tangail town unit of AL vice-president Golam Kibria Boro Moni when the AL leader surrendered before the court.

 

Golam Kibria,  also general secretary of Tangail Bus-Minibus Owners’ Association and vice=president of Tangail Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is the elder brother of Tanvir Hossain Chhoto Moni, the ruling party lawmaker from Tangail-2 constituency.

On April 5, the victim girl filed the case of raping and torturing her against Golam Kibria and his wife.

The case with Tangail police station alleged that the victim was now pregnant due to the rape by Golam Kibria.

Nigar Aftab, wife of Golam Kibria, was also accused of torturing the girl, according to the case statement.

On April 18, Golam Kibria and his wife got anticipatory bail from the High Court by the Supreme Court chamber judge on April 30 stayed the HC order and them to surrender before the lower court in two weeks.
