A Juba League leader was shot to death by miscreants at Gauripur West Bazar of Daudkandi upazila in Cumilla on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Jamal Hossain, 38, son of Fazlul Haque and resident of village Ziarkandi of Titas upazila. He was joint convener of Titas upazila unit of the Juba League.
Local people said that Jamal was a businessman of Gauripur market. On Sunday evening they heard the sound of gunshot at the market.
Later they found Jamal lying there and took him to the hospital immediately. At the time, local people also saw three men fleeing wearing burqas.
Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Daudkandi Police Station, said that Jamal was shot in the head and chest. Although he was declared dead at the Upazila Health Complex, his relatives took Jamal to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
DMCH police outpost in-charge inspector Md Bachchu Mia said that the body had been kept at DMCH morgue for post-mortem examinations.
