Bangladesh to play Afghanistan in Tajik venue

Sports Desk:

Bangladesh will start their FIFA World Cup 2022 and AFC Asian Cup 2023 joint qualifiers second round campaign taking on Afghanistan in Republican Central Stadium, Dushanbe, Tajikistan on September 10.

The Asian Football Confederation on Tuesday confirmed Afghanistan’s home venue in Tajikistan instead of war-torn homeland of Afghanistan, removing the uncertainty over Bangladesh’s first match venue in the joint qualifiers.

According to the AFC schedule, Bangladesh will play their second match against Qatar at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka on October 10 before playing an away match against India at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on October 15.

Bangladesh were placed in Group-E alongside Afghanistan, Qatar, Oman and India for the joint qualifiers.

After the draw ceremony in Malaysia on July 17, Bangladesh Football Federation expressed concern security over the first match venue of war-torn Afghanistan, though they were ready to accept whatever the decision taken by the FIFA.
