US citizen sues United Hospital over brother’s death

Shawdesh Desk:

A United States citizen Tala Elhendy Josephano filed a case with a Dhaka Court on Tuesday over her brother’s death due to alleged wrong treatment at the capital’s United Hospital.

The court accepted the case and directed Police Bureau of Investigation to investigate the allegation.

According to the case statement, the plaintiff accused Mohammad Omar Faruq, a doctor of United Hospital, and 10 to 12 other people.

Gulf Air pilot Mohannad Yousef Hassan Al Hindi collapsed at Dhaka airport a while before his flight and was admitted to United Hospital on December 14 in 2022, where he died on the next day.

In the case statement, Elhendy stated that United Hospital was on risk of losing its license when five patients died in the fire incident on May 27 in 2020 due to negligence of the hospital authorities.

‘There are many examples of their negligence. The last victim was my brother. I demand justice with exemplary punishment in the legal process, including cancelation of license of United Hospital,’ she said.

Elhendy held a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity on January 30. Later she went to the Gulshan police to file a case against the United Hospital authorities.

Terming the incident serious, Gulshan police station officer-in-charge Farman Ali and Gulshan zone’s assistant commissioner Newton Das advised Elhendy to file a case with a court.
