Buy gold, land as most reliable assets: BAJUS President

Shawdesh Desk:

Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) President Sayem Sobhan Anvir suggested people to buy gold and land as these two items are most reliable assets for future economic safety.

He was addressing a seminar titled “Narir Oitijjo, Narir Gohona (Women’s Tradition, Women’s Ornaments) held at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital on Thursday.

“People always complain that gold is costlier at buying and cheaper at selling. Their perception is wrong. They should buy pure gold which always deserves proper exchange value,” he said.

Terming gold and land more trustable assets, he said “Once upon a time, gold was sold at Tk 6,000 per bhori. Now, it is around Tk 90,000. The people who bought it in the past are making much profit. Buying land is also profitable. In the last 20 years, I have never seen anybody to be looser buying gold and land.”

Earlier, a three-day BAJUS Fair 2023 was inaugurated at the ICCB. The seminar was held on the sideline of the fair.

Shahnaz Munni, chief news editor of NEWS24 television channel, in her keynote paper, highlighted significance of gold ornaments.

Gold is not only a precious metal but also medicine, she said.

Ayurvedic scholars believe that gold can cure many health problems, specially bone diseases, she added.

Rawshan Ara Mannan MP, chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Road Transport and Bridges, said prospect of gold is increasing gradually as women and men both like to use gold now-a-days.

She requested BAJUS to try to ensure affordable price of gold ornaments.

Sohana Rouf Chowdhury, vice-president of BAJUS, said gold is a financial security to the women, especially the housewives.

Gold can be a good investment amid dollar crisis, she opined.

Jatiya Press Club president Farida Yasmin said women do not have much properties and thus gold is the last resort to many.

Giving gold ornaments to a girl at the time of marriage amounts to giving her financial security, she opined.

Sabrina Sobhan, Director of Bashundhara Group and wife of Bashundhara Group Managing Director, female MPs, Dhaka University senate member and noted women personalities were present.

The BAJUS Fair 2023 started at Noboratri, the largest hall at ICCB, with a view to contributing to implementation of Vision 2041 of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and internationalising Bangladesh’s jewellery products.

Bashundhara Group Managing Director and BAJUS President Sayem Sobhan Anvir inaugurated the fair by cutting ribbon.

Director of Bashundhara Group Sabrina Sobhan, BAJUS leaders, among others, were present.

The entry try fee for the fair is Tk 100. However, children upto five years are exempted from gate fee.

The fair will remain open from 10:00am to 9:00pm everyday.

Around 50 jewellery organisations have taken part in the fair which is divided into eight pavilions, 12 mini pavilions and 30 stalls.
