Students block Uttara road for trial, punishment of Nadia’s killers

Students of Northern University blocked road at Kaola in Dhaka’s Uttara area on Monday afternoon demanding immediate trial and punishment of the killers of their fellow student, Nadia, 24, who was killed as a bus ran over her in front of Jamuna Future Park on Kuril Bishwa road in the capital on Sunday afternoon.

They started their demonstration at about 12:30pm. Vehicular movement in the area remained halted for about an hould until 1:30pm.

Meanwhile, police on Monday morning arrested two people in connection with the death of Nadia.

The arrested were identified as the bus driver, Md Liton, 38, and his assistant Abul Khayer, 22.

The Bhatara police arrested the duo conducting a drive in the city’s Badda area at about 8:20am.

The victim, Nadia, was a student of pharmacy department of Northern University.

According to locals, the bus of Victor Paribahan from Uttara hit a motorbike carrying Nadia from behind, leaving her dead on the spot.

Bhatara police station inspector Rafiqul Haque said that on information, a team of police rushed to the spot and recovered the body.

The accident took place at about 1:00pm. Nadia was heading towards the Natunbazar crossing on a motorbike of her friend.

The bus hit the motorbike and Nadia fell on the road and the bus ran over her.

Nadia’s friend, the biker, was unhurt.

Following the accident, agitated students took to the streets in the Kawla foot-over bridge area on Sunday afternoon and evening and protested at the accident there.
