At least 30 shops were gutted in a fire at Chowmuhani Bazar under Begumganj upazila of Noakhali on early Wednesday. The fire originated from an electric short circuit at a shop of the Bazar at about 5:15am and soon engulfed the adjacent business establishments, Noakhali Fire Service Station acting director Purna Chandra said. Being informed, seven units of Chowmuhani, Maijdee, Kabirhat, Companiganj and Sonaimuri Fire Service and Civil Defense rushed to the spot and doused the blaze with the help of locals and affected businessmen after two hours of efforts, he added.

It is initially estimated to have caused a loss of Taka several crore, the affected businessmen claimed.
