Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, Minister of Agriculture in West Bengal, said Bangladesh is surpassing sub-continental countries day to day.

He was addressing a function marking the 51st Victory Day of Bangladesh at Deputy High Commission in Kolkata on Friday.

Recalling a past memory, Sovandeb said he was fortunate enough to meet Sheikh Kamal, one of the sons of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, at a function of World Youth Day in 1973. “We became good friends. He (Sheikh Kamal) is no more, but Bangladesh exists.”

He said “Bangladesh is exceeding countries of Indian subcontinent from all aspects. The country has now climbed to the top of development. The progress of the country has been possible by the relentless effort of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina along with participation of countrymen.”

Replying to a question of journalists, Sovandeb Chattopadhyay said “ Bengali people are emotional. So, a boundary line cannot divide them.”
