Three female athletes of the forthcoming South Asian Games preparation camp were hospitalised due to dengue fever on Thursday.
Kabaddi player Jannatul Nyeem, Kho Kho player Asma and Basketball player Brishti were admitted to a city hospital after they were diagnosed with dengue fever, said Shafiqur Rahman, medical committee chief of Bangladesh Olympic Association.
Seven other players were also admitted to different hospitals with suspected dengue case.
Happy, Priyanka, Hasna, Sompa and Asma of Kho Kho, Muslima of Kabaddi and Brishti of Basketball were admitted to Bangladesh Medical College, said Shafiqur, who could not give the full name of the athletes.
The three other – Mitu Akter, Tasmin and Rekha – were hospitalised at the Bangladesh Police Hospital, he said.
‘The situation [dengue fever] of the Sultana Kamal Women’s Sports Complex in Dhanmondi is severe,’ said Shafiqur.
‘We are trying to tackle the situation. We don’t want to take any risk. So, we sent all of them to hospital, who are suffering from fever.’
BOA said it would conduct a fumigation drive to kill Aedes mosquito, the primary source of the flue, at the Sultana Kamal Women’s Sports Complex in Dhanmondi on Saturday.
A total of 781 athletes from 23 disciplines are engaged in their respective training at 22 venues and are residing at 15 camps in Dhaka and across the country.
