Four killed as train hits auto-rickshaw in Cumilla level crossing

At least four people were killed and another was injured when a train hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at a level crossing under Manoharganj upazila of Cumilla district on Tuesday.

The deceased are Maksudur Rahman, 65, of North Howla village of Manoharganj area, Mohammad Habib, 22, son of Abu Taher of the same village, Moiful Begum, 35, of Bharnikhand village of Khila union and the auto-rickshaw driver Shahidul Islam, 40, a resident of North Howla village of the upazila.

The accident occurred in Tughuria area at about 10:30am.

‘Three people died on the spot and two others were injured when the train hit the auto- rickshaw,’ said Laksam Railway Police Station officer-in-charge Jasim Uddin Khandkar.

The injured were taken to a local hospital, where one succumbed to his injuries, he said.

The bodies were handed over to their family members, the OC added.
