Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming called on Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Mayor and Bangladesh Awami League (AL) Presidium Member AHM Khairuzzaman Liton his office here today and discussed about the bilateral relations between the two countries.

After the meeting, Mayor Liton talked to the media, saying China is one of the closest friends that has been working as one of the development associates in Bangladesh.

He also said many of the mega projects are being implemented by Chinese companies and their engineers and the trend will continue in the days to come.

The RCC mayor told the journalists that Bangladesh and China signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in 2016 to supply water to Rajshahi city and Godagari, Katakhali and Naohata municipalities from the Padma river through pipelines.

Liton said they have discussed implementation of different projects related to water treatment and waste management in Rajshahi city through public private partnerships between the Chinese government and Rajshahi City Corporation.

Chinese Envoy Li Jiming said five Chinese companies are working in Pabna EPZ and six more companies are coming. Many more companies are interested to invest in Bangladesh as the country has a congenial business atmosphere.

He lauded Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina over the Chinese government’s contribution and involvement in Bangladesh’s socio-economic development.
