Dengue kills three more, hospitalises 899 others in Bangladesh

At least three more dengue patients died in the past 24 hours till Thursday morning across Bangladesh, taking the official death toll to 123 since January.

In the past 24 hours till 8:00am on Thursday, 899 people were admitted to different health facilities across the country, of which, 491 were reported in Dhaka city and 408 in other places outside the capital, said a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services.

Of the fresh deaths, one died in Cox’s Bazar, one died in Pabna and another in Bogura district, said the DGHS release.

The mosquito-borne viral disease forced 34,822 to admit to hospitals across the country, of which, 18, 730 or 53.78 per cent were reported in the 27 days of October.

A total of 24,093 or 69.18 per cent of the total hospitalisation were reported in Dhaka city, said the release.

This year’s dengue hospitalisation and death marked the second highest since 2000 when the government started keeping records of the mosquito-borne viral disease.

A total of 3,480 dengue patients including 2,250 are undergoing treatment at 53 public and private hospitals in the capital.
