Record 1,034 dengue patients hospitalised in 24hrs in Bangladesh

At least one more dengue patient died in Dhaka and 1,034 were admitted to different health facilities across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours.

This is the highest reported single-day hospitalisation in the ongoing year.

In the past 24 hours till 8:00am on Sunday, 589 were hospitalised in Dhaka city and 445 others were hospitalised elsewhere in the country, said a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services.

A total of 31,063 people were hospitalised with dengue infections across the country since January, of which, 113 died so far.

A total of 14,971 patients or 48.20 per cent of this year’s dengue hospitalisation were reported in the first 23 days of October showing an unbridled rise in dengue infections.

Of the total reported deaths, 58 people or about 51.32 per cent of deaths were reported in 23 days of October, 34 in September, 11 in August, nine in July and one was reported in June while no death was reported between January and May, according to the DGHS press release.

Of the total 113 deaths this year, 67 died in Dhaka city, one in Narsingdi, 36 in Chattogram, five in Barishal, two in Khulna and two in Mymensingh divisions.
